Bara bin Azib reported,

Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه came to my father at his house and bought a saddle from him. He said to Azib, "Send your son to carry it with me."So I carried it with him, and my father went out to receive its price. My father said to him, "Abu Bakr, tell me how the two of you managed when you traveled by night with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."He said, "Yes. We traveled through the night and on into the next day until the sun reached its zenith and the road was empty, with no one passing by. Then a tall rock came into view for us, casting a shadow that the sun had not yet reached. So we stopped beside it, and I prepared a place for the Prophet ﷺ with my own hands for him to sleep on, and I spread out a fur covering on it. I said, 'Sleep, Messenger of Allah, and I will keep watch around you.'So he slept, and I went out to keep watch around him. Then I saw a shepherd coming toward the rock with his flock, wanting from it what we had wanted.I said to him, 'Whose servant are you, boy?'He said, 'I belong to a man from the people of Madinah,' or 'Makkah.'I said, 'Is there milk in your flock?'He said, 'Yes.'I said, 'Will you milk some for me?'He said, 'Yes.'So he took hold of a sheep, and I said, 'Brush the udder clean of dust, hair, and dirt.'"Zuhayr said, I saw Bara striking one of his hands against the other, demonstrating the brushing."He milked a small amount of milk into a wooden bowl for me. I had with me a water skin that I carried for the Prophet ﷺ to drink from and to perform ablution with. I came to the Prophet ﷺ, but I was reluctant to wake him, so I arrived just as he was waking up. I poured some water onto the milk until its lower part became cool, then I said, 'Drink, Messenger of Allah.'He drank until I was satisfied, then he said, 'Is it not time to set off?'I said, 'Yes indeed.'So we set off after the sun had passed its zenith, and Suraqa bin Malik pursued us. I said, 'We have been overtaken, Messenger of Allah.'He said, 'Do not grieve, indeed Allah is with us' [Tawbah 9:40].The Prophet ﷺ supplicated against him, and his horse sank into the ground up to its belly," I think he said, "in firm ground." Zuhayr was uncertain."He said, 'I see that the two of you have supplicated against me, so supplicate for me, and by Allah, I pledge to turn back any pursuit from you.'So the Prophet ﷺ supplicated for him and he was saved. Then he did not meet anyone without saying, 'I have already taken care of this area for you,' so he turned back everyone he met."He said, "And he kept his word to us."
