I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Pride and arrogance are found among the loud-voiced camel herders, the people of wool tents, while tranquility is found among the shepherds of sheep. Faith is Yemeni, and wisdom is Yemeni."Abu Abdullah said, Yemen was named so because it lies to the right of the Kaabah, and Sham was named so because it lies to the left of the Kaabah. The mashamah is the left side, the left hand is called the shuma, and the left flank is called the asham.
حدثنا أبو اليمان أخبرنا شعيب عن الزهري قال أخبرني أبو سلمة بن عبد الرحمن أن
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول الفخر والخيلاء في الفدادين أهل الوبر والسكينة في أهل الغنم والإيمان يمان والحكمة يمانية قال أبو عبد الله سميت اليمن لأنها عن يمين الكعبة والشأم لأنها عن يسار الكعبة والمشأمة الميسرة واليد اليسرى الشؤمى والجانب الأيسر الأشأم
