There were two women, each with her son. A wolf came and carried off the son of one of them.One woman said to the other, "It was your son he took."The other replied, "No, it was your son he took."So they brought their dispute to Dawud, and he ruled that the child belonged to the elder woman. Then they went out to Sulayman bin Dawud and told him what had happened.He said, "Bring me a knife and I will cut the child in two between them."At that the younger woman cried out, "Do not do it, may Allah have mercy on you. He is her son."So Sulayman ruled that the child belonged to the younger woman.Abu Hurairah said, "By Allah, I never heard the word sikkin for a knife until that day. We had only ever said mudya."
وقال كانت امرأتان معهما ابناهما جاء الذئب فذهب بابن إحداهما فقالت صاحبتها إنما ذهب بابنك وقالت الأخرى إنما ذهب بابنك فتحاكمتا إلى داود فقضى به للكبرى فخرجتا على سليمان بن داود فأخبرتاه فقال ائتوني بالسكين أشقه بينهما فقالت الصغرى لا تفعل يرحمك الله هو ابنها فقضى به للصغرى قال أبو هريرة والله إن سمعت بالسكين إلا يومئذ وما كنا نقول إلا المدية
