I asked Abu Waail, "Were you present at Siffin?"He replied, "Yes."I then heard Sahl bin Hunayf say, "Distrust your own opinions. I saw myself on the day of Abu Jandal, and had I been able to reject the command of the Prophet ﷺ, I would have rejected it. We have never placed our swords upon our shoulders for a matter that troubled us except that they led us easily to an outcome we could understand, except for this affair of ours."

سألت أبا وائل شهدت صفين قال نعم فسمعت سهل بن حنيف يقول اتهموا رأيكم رأيتني يوم أبي جندل ولو أستطيع أن أرد أمر النبي ﷺ لرددته وما وضعنا أسيافنا على عواتقنا لأمر يفظعنا إلا أسهلن بنا إلى أمر نعرفه غير أمرنا هذا
