The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever kills a person under a covenant of protection will not even smell the fragrance of Paradise, though its fragrance can be detected from a distance of forty years' travel."
29 - Bukhari related the hadith of Abdul-Wahid bin Ziyad, from Hasan bin Amr, from Mujahid, from Abdullah bin Amr, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, "Whoever kills a person under covenant will not smell the fragrance of Paradise, and its fragrance can be detected from a distance of forty." He said, Marwan bin Muawiya differed from him, relating it instead from Hasan bin Amr, from Mujahid, from Junada bin Abu Umaya, from Abdullah bin Amr, and this is the correct version.
Hafiz said in Al-Fath, "This is what Abdul-Wahid said, narrating from Hasan bin Amr, and Abu Muawiya followed him in the version found in Ibn Majah, as did Amr bin Abdul-Ghaffar Al-Fuqaymi in the version found in Ismaili. So these three narrated it in this manner."
