Abdullah bin Abbas reported,

The delegation of Abdul-Qays came and said, "Messenger of Allah, we are a clan from Rabia, and between us and you stand the disbelievers of Mudar, so we cannot reach you except during the sacred month. Give us a clear command that we may act upon and convey to those we left behind."He said, "I command you with four things and forbid you four. I command you to believe in Allah," then he asked, "Do you know what belief in Allah is? It is to bear witness that there is no god but Allah," and he counted on his hand, "to establish the prayer, to give the zakat, to fast Ramadan, and to give one fifth of whatever spoils you take. And I forbid you from using four kinds of vessels for fermenting drinks, the gourd, the hollowed palm trunk, the green clay jar, and the pitch-coated vessel."
