Abu Bakr reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "We do not leave inheritance. Whatever we leave behind is charity."Fatimah, daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, became angry at this and stopped speaking to Abu Bakr. She continued to avoid him until she died. She lived for six months after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.She said, Fatimah used to ask Abu Bakr for her share of what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ left from Khaybar, Fadak, and his charitable endowment in Medina. Abu Bakr refused to give her that and said, "I will not abandon anything the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to do without doing it myself, for I fear that if I leave any of his practice, I will go astray."As for his charitable endowment in Medina, Umar handed it over to Ali and Abbas. As for Khaybar and Fadak, Umar kept them in his possession and said, "These two are the charitable endowment of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. They were set aside for the obligations that arose for him and the demands placed upon him, and their administration belongs to whoever holds authority."He said, So they have remained in that status to this day.Abu Abdullah said, "Iʿtaraka" is of the iftaala form, derived from "arawtuhu," meaning "I came upon him," and from this also comes "yaʿruhu" and "iʿtarani."
