A man called Karkarah was in charge of the baggage of the Prophet ﷺ. When he died, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "He is in the Fire."So they went to look into his belongings and found a cloak he had stolen from the spoils.Abu Abdullah said, Ibn Salam said, "Karkarah is pronounced with a fatha on the kaf, and it is recorded as such."
Bukhari also related the hadith of Ibn Uyayna, from Amr bin Dinar, from Salim bin Abu Jaad, from Abdullah bin Amr, who said, "There was a man in charge of the baggage of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, called Kirkirah." Also, Salim narrates from his brother, from Abdullah bin Amr, a hadith that Ammar Duhni relates from him, but the hadith of Ibn Uyayna does not contain Salim bin Abu Jaad's hearing directly from Abdullah bin Amr. And Allah knows best.
Ibn Hajar said in the introduction to Fath al-Bari, after mentioning Daraqutni's statement, "I say, this criticism does not apply against Bukhari despite his requirement of establishing the meeting, for the fact that Salim narrated a hadith from Abdullah bin Amr through an intermediary does not preclude him from narrating from him directly, once his meeting with him has been established. And Allah knows best." End of quote.Ibn Hajar mentioned Salim in the second tier of the tiers of mudallisin, and Ali bin Madini said in al-Ilal, page 68, that Salim met Abdullah bin Amr. Since his meeting with Abdullah bin Amr has been established, we are safe from the possibility of disconnection (irsal), and since Ibn Hajar placed him in the second tier of the tiers of mudallisin, those whose failure to explicitly state that they heard directly does no harm, the hadith, as Ibn Hajar (may Allah have mercy on him) says, is sahih. And Allah knows best.
I say, Salim bin Abu Jaad practices tadlis and mursal narration, as Hafiz Dhahabi stated in Al-Mizan, and Salim has no narration from Abdullah bin Amr in Bukhari except this one hadith. He also has one in Nasai's Kubra, "No one who reminds others of favors done, nor an undutiful child, nor a child born of fornication, will enter paradise," as noted in Tuhfat Ashraf, volume 1, pages 292 and 293. Neither of these narrations contains an explicit statement of direct hearing. Rather, in Nasai's version, in some of its paths, it is narrated from Salim from Nubayt from Jaban from Ibn Amr. And it has also been said to be from Salim from Jaban himself from Abdullah bin Amr, to the rest of what he mentioned in Tuhfat Ashraf.
