The Prophet ﷺ said, "List for me everyone among the people who has openly professed Islam." So we recorded for him one thousand five hundred men. We said, "Should we fear, when we are one thousand five hundred?" Indeed, we later saw ourselves so afflicted that a man would pray alone in a state of fear.Abdan narrated to us from Abu Hamza, from Amash, "We found them to be five hundred."Abu Muawiya said, "Between six hundred and seven hundred."
حدثنا محمد بن يوسف حدثنا سفيان عن الأعمش عن أبي وائل
قال النبي ﷺ اكتبوا لي من تلفظ بالإسلام من الناس فكتبنا له ألفا وخمس مائة رجل فقلنا نخاف ونحن ألف وخمس مائة فلقد رأيتنا ابتلينا حتى إن الرجل ليصلي وحده وهو خائف حدثنا عبدان عن أبي حمزة عن الأعمش فوجدناهم خمس مائة قال أبو معاوية ما بين ست مائة إلى سبع مائة
