Umar reported that he set out with a group of the Prophet's ﷺ companions, accompanied by the Prophet ﷺ himself, heading toward Ibn Sayyad. They found him playing with some boys near the fortress of Banu Maghalah. Ibn Sayyad was at that time approaching puberty, and he did not notice anything until the Prophet ﷺ struck his back with his hand.Then the Prophet ﷺ asked, "Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?"Ibn Sayyad looked at him and said, "I bear witness that you are the messenger of the unlettered ones."Then Ibn Sayyad said to the Prophet ﷺ, "Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?"The Prophet ﷺ said to him, "I believe in Allah and His messengers."The Prophet ﷺ then asked, "What do you see?"Ibn Sayyad replied, "A truthful one and a liar come to me."The Prophet ﷺ said, "The matter has been confused for you."Then the Prophet ﷺ said, "I have concealed something for you."Ibn Sayyad said, "It is the smoke."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Be gone, you will never exceed your limit."Umar said, "Messenger of Allah, allow me to strike off his head."The Prophet ﷺ replied, "If he is the one, you will not be given power over him, and if he is not, there is no good for you in killing him."
حدثنا عبد الله بن محمد حدثنا هشام أخبرنا معمر عن الزهري أخبرني سالم بن عبد الله
أنه أخبره أن عمر انطلق في رهط من أصحاب النبي ﷺ مع النبي ﷺ قبل ابن صياد حتى وجدوه يلعب مع الغلمان عند أطم بني مغالة وقد قارب يومئذ ابن صياد يحتلم فلم يشعر بشيء حتى ضرب النبي ﷺ ظهره بيده ثم قال النبي ﷺ أتشهد أني رسول الله فنظر إليه ابن صياد فقال أشهد أنك رسول الأميين فقال ابن صياد للنبي ﷺ أتشهد أني رسول الله قال له النبي ﷺ آمنت بالله ورسله قال النبي ﷺ ماذا ترى قال ابن صياد يأتيني صادق وكاذب قال النبي ﷺ خلط عليك الأمر قال النبي ﷺ إني قد خبأت لك خبيئا قال ابن صياد هو الدخ قال النبي ﷺ اخسأ فلن تعدو قدرك قال عمر يا رسول الله ائذن لي فيه أضرب عنقه قال النبي ﷺ إن يكنه فلن تسلط عليه وإن لم يكنه فلا خير لك في قتله
