Abu Talha had more wealth in date palms than any of the Ansar in Medina, and the property he loved most was Bayruha, which faced the mosque. The Prophet ﷺ used to enter it and drink from its sweet water.Anas reported that when the verse was revealed, "You will never attain righteousness until you spend from what you love" [Aal Imran 3:92], Abu Talha stood up and said, "Messenger of Allah, Allah says, 'You will never attain righteousness until you spend from what you love' [Aal Imran 3:92], and the property I love most is Bayruha. It is now a charity for the sake of Allah. I hope for its reward and that it will be stored up with Allah. So place it wherever Allah shows you."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Well done! That is profitable wealth," or "passing wealth" (Ibn Maslama was uncertain which word was used). "I have heard what you said, and I think you should give it to your relatives."Abu Talha said, "I will do so, Messenger of Allah."So Abu Talha distributed it among his relatives and his cousins.Ismail, Abdullah bin Yusuf, and Yahya bin Yahya all narrated it from Malik with the wording "passing."
حدثنا عبد الله بن مسلمة عن مالك عن إسحاق بن عبد الله بن أبي طلحة أنه سمع
كان أبو طلحة أكثر أنصاري بالمدينة مالا من نخل أحب ماله إليه بيرحاء مستقبلة المسجد وكان النبي ﷺ يدخلها ويشرب من ماء فيها طيب قال أنس فلما نزلت {لن تنالوا البر حتى تنفقوا مما تحبون} قام أبو طلحة فقال يا رسول الله إن الله يقول {لن تنالوا البر حتى تنفقوا مما تحبون} وإن أحب أموالي إلي بيرحاء وإنها صدقة لله أرجو برها وذخرها عند الله فضعها حيث أراك الله فقال بخ ذلك مال رابح أو رايح شك ابن مسلمة وقد سمعت ما قلت وإني أرى أن تجعلها في الأقربين قال أبو طلحة أفعل ذلك يا رسول الله فقسمها أبو طلحة في أقاربه وفي بني عمه وقال إسماعيل وعبد الله بن يوسف ويحيى بن يحيى عن مالك رايح
