Ukaz, Majannah, and Dhu al-Majaz were marketplaces during the era of pre-Islamic ignorance. When Islam came, the Muslims felt it was sinful to trade in them, so Allah revealed, "There is no blame upon you for seeking bounty from your Lord" [Baqarah 2:198], meaning during the seasons of Hajj. Ibn Abbas recited it this way.
