A man set up his merchandise in the marketplace and swore by Allah that he had been offered a price for it that he had not actually been offered, intending to deceive a Muslim into buying it. Then the verse was revealed, "Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a small price..." [Aal Imran 3:77].

أن رجلا أقام سلعة وهو في السوق فحلف بالله لقد أعطى بها ما لم يعط ليوقع فيها رجلا من المسلمين فنزلت {إن الذين يشترون بعهد الله وأيمانهم ثمنا قليلا} الآية
