I was with my father when we visited Ayesha and Umm Salama.Abu al-Yaman narrated to us that Shuayb informed us from Zuhri, who said, Abu Bakr bin Abdul-Rahman bin Harith bin Hisham informed me that his father Abdul-Rahman told Marwan that Ayesha and Umm Salama both informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would sometimes be overtaken by the dawn while in a state of major ritual impurity from intercourse with his wives, then he would bathe and fast.Marwan said to Abdul-Rahman bin Harith, "I swear by Allah, you must confront Abu Hurairah with this." Marwan was the governor of Medina at that time.Abu Bakr said, Abdul-Rahman disliked doing so, but it was decreed that we would meet at Dhul-Hulayfah, where Abu Hurairah had some land.Abdul-Rahman said to Abu Hurairah, "I have something to mention to you, and were it not that Marwan placed me under oath about it, I would not have brought it up to you." He then mentioned what Ayesha and Umm Salama had said.Abu Hurairah replied, "Fadl bin Abbas narrated it to me that way, and they know better."Hammam and the son of Abdullah bin Umar reported from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet ﷺ used to order such a person to break the fast, but the first version has the stronger chain of transmission.
حدثنا عبد الله بن مسلمة عن مالك عن سمي مولى أبي بكر بن عبد الرحمن بن الحارث بن هشام بن المغيرة أنه سمع
كنت أنا وأبي حين دخلنا على عائشة وأم سلمة ح و حدثنا أبو اليمان أخبرنا شعيب عن الزهري قال أخبرني أبو بكر بن عبد الرحمن بن الحارث بن هشام أن أباه عبد الرحمن أخبر مروان أن عائشة وأم سلمة أخبرتاه أن رسول الله ﷺ كان يدركه الفجر وهو جنب من أهله ثم يغتسل ويصوم وقال مروان لعبد الرحمن بن الحارث أقسم بالله لتقرعن بها أبا هريرة ومروان يومئذ على المدينة فقال أبو بكر فكره ذلك عبد الرحمن ثم قدر لنا أن نجتمع بذي الحليفة وكانت لأبي هريرة هنالك أرض فقال عبد الرحمن لأبي هريرة إني ذاكر لك أمرا ولولا مروان أقسم علي فيه لم أذكره لك فذكر قول عائشة وأم سلمة فقال كذلك حدثني الفضل بن عباس وهن أعلم وقال همام وابن عبد الله بن عمر عن أبي هريرة كان النبي ﷺ يأمر بالفطر والأول أسند
