Abu Qatada reported,

We were with the Prophet ﷺ at al-Qaha, three nights' journey from Medina.Ali bin Abdullah also narrated to us, saying, Sufyan narrated to us, saying, Salih bin Kaysan narrated to us, from Abu Muhammad, from Abu Qatada رضي الله عنه, who said, "We were with the Prophet ﷺ at al-Qaha. Some of us were in the state of ihram and some were not. I saw my companions looking at something, so I looked, and there was a wild donkey. His whip had fallen, so they said, 'We will not help you with anything regarding it, for we are in ihram.' So I picked it up myself and took it. Then I approached the donkey from behind a hill and brought it down. I brought it to my companions, and some of them said, 'Eat,' while others said, 'Do not eat.' So I went to the Prophet ﷺ, who was ahead of us, and asked him. He said, 'Eat it. It is permissible.'"Amr said to us, "Go to Salih and ask him about this and other matters. He came to us here."
