Salim reported,

Abdul-Malik wrote to Hajjaj instructing him not to oppose Ibn Umar in matters of the Hajj. So Ibn Umar came, and I was with him, on the day of Arafah when the sun had passed its zenith. He shouted at the entrance of Hajjaj's pavilion, and Hajjaj came out wearing a saffron-dyed wrap.Hajjaj asked, "What is the matter, Abu Abdul-Rahman?"Ibn Umar replied, "Time to set out, if you want to follow the Sunnah."Hajjaj asked, "At this hour?"Ibn Umar said, "Yes."Hajjaj said, "Give me a moment to pour water over my head, then I will come out."So Ibn Umar dismounted until Hajjaj came out, and Hajjaj walked between me and my father. I said, "If you want to follow the Sunnah, shorten the sermon and hasten the standing."He kept looking toward Abdullah, and when Abdullah saw that, he said, "He has spoken the truth."

حدثنا عبد الله بن يوسف أخبرنا مالك عن ابن شهاب

عن سالم قال

كتب عبد الملك إلى الحجاج أن لا يخالف ابن عمر في الحج فجاء ابن عمر رضي الله عنه وأنا معه يوم عرفة حين زالت الشمس فصاح عند سرادق الحجاج فخرج وعليه ملحفة معصفرة فقال ما لك يا أبا عبد الرحمن فقال الرواح إن كنت تريد السنة قال هذه الساعة قال نعم قال فأنظرني حتى أفيض على رأسي ثم أخرج فنزل حتى خرج الحجاج فسار بيني وبين أبي فقلت إن كنت تريد السنة فاقصر الخطبة وعجل الوقوف فجعل ينظر إلى عبد الله فلما رأى ذلك عبد الله قال صدق
