Ayesha reported,

The Prophet ﷺ said to her, "Ayesha, were it not that your people are recently removed from the days of ignorance, I would have ordered the House to be demolished and would have included within it what was excluded from it. I would have set it level with the ground and made for it two doors, one on the east and one on the west, thus reaching the foundation of Ibrahim."That is what motivated Ibn Zubayr to demolish it.Yazid said, I witnessed Ibn Zubayr when he demolished it and rebuilt it, incorporating part of the Hijr into it. I saw the foundation of Ibrahim, stones like the humps of camels.Jareer said, I asked him, "Where is its location?"He replied, "I will show you now."So I entered the Hijr with him, and he pointed to a spot and said, "Right here."Jareer said, I estimated it from the Hijr to be about six cubits or so.

عن عائشة رضي الله عنها

أن النبي ﷺ قال لها يا عائشة لولا أن قومك حديث عهد بجاهلية لأمرت بالبيت فهدم فأدخلت فيه ما أخرج منه وألزقته بالأرض وجعلت له بابين بابا شرقيا وبابا غربيا فبلغت به أساس إبراهيم فذلك الذي حمل ابن الزبير رضي الله عنهما على هدمه قال يزيد وشهدت ابن الزبير حين هدمه وبناه وأدخل فيه من الحجر وقد رأيت أساس إبراهيم حجارة كأسنمة الإبل قال جرير فقلت له أين موضعه قال أريكه الآن فدخلت معه الحجر فأشار إلى مكان فقال ها هنا قال جرير فحزرت من الحجر ستة أذرع أو نحوها
