The Prophet ﷺ set out from Medina after combing his hair, applying oil, and putting on his lower garment and upper cloak, along with his companions. He did not forbid any kind of cloak or lower garment from being worn except those dyed with saffron that would leave its color on the skin.He reached Dhul-Hulayfah in the morning, then mounted his riding-camel and, when he had settled upon it at al-Bayda, he and his companions entered into ihram. He garlanded his sacrificial camel, and this took place when five nights remained of Dhul-Qadah.He arrived in Mecca when four nights had passed of Dhul-Hijjah. He performed tawaf around the House and saay between Safa and Marwa, but he did not exit ihram because of his sacrificial animal, since he had garlanded it. He then stayed in the upper part of Mecca near al-Hajun, remaining in ihram for Hajj. He did not approach the Kaabah again after his tawaf until he returned from Arafah. He commanded his companions to perform tawaf around the House and to go between Safa and Marwa, then to shorten their hair and exit ihram. This applied to anyone who had not brought a garlanded sacrificial animal with him. Whoever had his wife with him, she became lawful for him, as did perfume and regular clothing.
