Abdul-Rahman bin Awf came in to see her and said, "Mother, I fear that the abundance of my wealth will destroy me. I have more wealth than anyone among Quraysh."She replied, "My son, spend it, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Among my companions are those who will not see me after I part from them.'"Abdul-Rahman left and met Umar, and told him what Umm Salama had said. Umar came and went in to see her and asked, "By Allah, am I among them?"She answered, "No, and I will not absolve anyone after you."
دخل عليها عبد الرحمن بن عوف فقال: يا أمه، قد خفت أن يهلكني كثرة مالي، أنا أكثر قريش مالا. قالت: يا بني، أنفق، فإني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: إن من أصحابي من لم يرني بعد أن أفارقه فخرج عبد الرحمن فلقي عمر فأخبره بالذي قالت أم سلمة، فجاء عمر فدخل عليها، فقال: بالله منهم أنا؟ قالت: لا، ولن أبرئ أحدا بعدك.
Ahmad (26489), Bazzar in Kashf Astar (2496), and Abu Yaala (7003) all narrated it through the route of Abu Muawiya Muhammad bin Khazim, who said, Amash narrated to us, from Shaqiq, from Umm Salama, who said, and then he mentioned it. Its chain is sahih. Haythami said in Majma (729), "Bazzar narrated it, and its men are the men of the sahih."Bazzar said, "Amash and others narrated it from Abu Waail (who is Shaqiq bin Salama), from Umm Salama. Abu Waail narrated three hadiths from her, and some people inserted Masruq between him and her."As for Masruq's narration from Umm Salama, which Bazzar pointed to, it was recorded by Ahmad (26549) and Tabarani in Kabir (23/318), both through the route of Asim bin Bahdala, from Abu Waail, from Masruq, from Umm Salama, and then he mentioned it.It may be that Abu Waail Shaqiq bin Salama first heard the hadith through Masruq from Umm Salama, then later heard the hadith directly from Umm Salama without an intermediary. Abu Waail Shaqiq bin Salama was among the Mukhadramun, and he died during the caliphate of Umar bin Abdul-Aziz, at the age of one hundred.
