A man came to Ibn Umar and asked him about Uthman. Ibn Umar mentioned the good deeds Uthman had done, then said, "Perhaps this displeases you?"The man replied, "Yes."Ibn Umar said, "May Allah rub your nose in the dirt."Then the man asked him about Ali. Ibn Umar mentioned the good deeds Ali had done and said, "That is him, his house stands in the middle of the houses of the Prophet ﷺ."Then he said, "Perhaps this displeases you?"The man replied, "Indeed."Ibn Umar said, "May Allah rub your nose in the dirt. Go, and do your worst against me."
جاء رجل إلى ابن عمر فسأله عن عثمان، فذكر عن محاسن عمله قال: لعل ذاك يسوؤك؟ قال: نعم. قال: فأرغم الله بأنفك. ثم سأله عن علي، فذكر محاسن عمله، قال: هو ذاك بيته أوسط بيوت النبي ﷺ ثم قال: لعل ذاك يسوؤك؟ قال: أجل. قال: فأرغم الله بأنفك انطلق فاجهد علي جهدك.
