The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "No servant truly believes until he believes in four things. He testifies that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah, sent with the truth, he believes in death, he believes in the resurrection after death, and he believes in divine decree."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: لا يؤمن عبد حتى يؤمن بأربع: يشهد أن لا إله إلا الله، وأني رسول الله، بعثني بالحق، ويؤمن بالموت، ويؤمن بالبعث بعد الموت، ويؤمن بالقدر.
Tirmidhi (2145) narrated it from Mahmud bin Ghaylan, who said, Abu Dawud told us, Shuba informed us, from Mansur, from Rabi bin Harash, from Ali, and he mentioned something similar. Abu Dawud here is Tayalisi, and the hadith is in his Musnad (106). Ibn Majah (81) also narrated it through another route, from Sharik, from Mansur, with his chain, similarly. Sharik here is Ibn Abdullah Nakhai, whose memory has been criticized, though he has been corroborated, Shuba corroborated him as mentioned above. However, Shuba's students differed regarding his narration. Abu Dawud Tayalisi narrated it from him as mentioned above, while Nadr bin Shumayl narrated it from him in similar fashion, except that he said, "Rabi, from a man, from Ali."Tirmidhi said, "The hadith of Abu Dawud, from Shuba, is in my view more sahih than the hadith of Nadr. This is how more than one narrator transmitted it from Mansur, from Rabi, from Ali." End of his statement.As he said, Sufyan also narrated it from Mansur, in similar fashion, in his Sahih (178), and Hakim (1/32-33) both narrated it through the route of Muhammad bin Kathir, from Sufyan, with it. Hakim said, "Sahih according to the standard of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim). Some of Thawri's students shortened it in their narration, and this, in our view, is not something to be concerned with."Likewise, Jareer also narrated it from Mansur, and Hakim narrated it through his route and said, "Jareer is among the most knowledgeable people regarding Mansur's hadith." Abu Huzaifa differed from them, narrating it from Sufyan, and inserted a man between Rabi and Ali.Hakim said, "Abu Huzaifa is Musa bin Masud Nahdi, and even though Bukhari relies on him as evidence, he makes many mistakes, and cannot be given precedence over Abu Asim Nabil and Muhammad bin Kathir and their peers. Rather, when he differs from them, the error is attributed to him. The proof of what I have mentioned is the corroboration of Jareer bin Abdul-Hameed Thawri in his narration from Mansur, from Rabi, from Ali, and Jareer is among the most knowledgeable people regarding Mansur's hadith."
