The Prophet ﷺ used to say, "There were among the nations before you people who were divinely inspired. If there is anyone like that in my community, it is Umar. Indeed, Umar bin Khattab is one of them."
عن النبي ﷺ أنه كان يقول: قد كان يكون في الأمم قبلكم محدثون، فإن يكن في أمتي منهم أحد فعمر، فإن عمر بن الخطاب منهم.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of the Virtues of the Companions (2398), from Abu Tahir Ahmad bin Amr bin Sarh, who said, Abdullah bin Wahb narrated to us, from Ibrahim bin Saad, from his father Saad bin Ibrahim, from Abu Salama, from Ayesha, from the Prophet ﷺ. He likewise narrated it through two other chains, from Ibn Ajlan, from Saad bin Ibrahim, with this same chain of transmission and the same wording.I say, the companions of Ibrahim bin Saad narrated it from him as part of the musnad of Abu Hurairah, but Ibn Wahb differed from them and narrated it from Ibrahim, from his father, from Abu Salama, from Ayesha. Both versions are sahih, and neither one invalidates the other.
