The Prophet ﷺ said, "Among the nations before you there were people who were divinely inspired. If there is any such person in my nation, it is Umar."
عن النبي ﷺ قال: لقد كان فيما قبلكم من الأمم محدثون فإن يك في أمتي أحد فإنه عمر.
Bukhari narrated it in the Merits of the Companions (3689) from Yahya bin Qazaa, who said, Ibrahim bin Saad narrated to us, from his father, from Abu Salama, from Abu Hurairah, and he mentioned it.Bukhari said afterward, "Zakariya bin Abu Zaida added, from Saad, from Abu Salama, from Abu Hurairah, who said, the Prophet ﷺ said, 'Among those before you from Banu Israil there were men who were spoken to though they were not prophets, and if there is anyone among my nation like them, it is Umar.'"This suspended hadith that Bukhari mentioned has been narrated with disagreement regarding Zakariya. Dawud bin Abdul-Hameed and Ishaq Azraq narrated it from him as a raised hadith, as the Hafiz mentioned in Taghliq (4/64). But Abdullah bin Idris narrated it from him, from Saad bin Ibrahim, from Abu Salama, as a mursal narration, as Ibn Abu Shayba (32635) related from Abdullah bin Idris. Daraqutni mentioned it in al-Ilal (9/313) and did not give preference to either version over the other.
