The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not insult my companions. If any one of you were to spend gold equal to Mount Uhud, it would not equal a handful of theirs, nor even half of it."
قال النبي ﷺ: لا تسبوا أصحابي فلو أن أحدكم أنفق مثل أحد ذهبا ما بلغ مد أحدهم ولا نصيفه.
Bukhari narrated it in the Merits of the Companions (3673), and Muslim narrated it in the Merits of the Companions (2541), both from the hadith of Amash, who said, I heard Zakwan narrating from Abu Saeed Khudri, who said, and then he mentioned it. This is Bukhari's wording. In Muslim's version there is an addition at the beginning, namely his statement that there was something between Khalid bin Walid and Abdul-Rahman bin Awf, and Khalid cursed him, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not curse any of my companions..." and then he mentioned it.Muslim also narrated it (254:221) through another route, from Abu Muawiya, from Amash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurairah, who said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not curse my companions, do not curse my companions, for by the One in whose hand is my soul, if one of you were to spend the equivalent of Mount Uhud in gold, it would not reach what one of them spent, a measure or half a measure."However, the scholars agreed that Muslim erred in this, for the correct attribution is that it is from the hadith of Abu Saeed Khudri.
