I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the market of Dhul-Majaz wearing a red garment, calling out, "People, say there is no god but Allah and you will succeed."A man was following him, throwing stones at him until his ankles and heels were bleeding, while saying, "People, do not obey him, for he is a liar."I asked, "Who is this?"Someone replied, "This is the young man of Banu Abdul-Muttalib."I asked, "And who is the one following him, pelting him with stones?"He answered, "That is Abd al-Uzza, Abu Lahab."When Islam came to prevail, we set out and stopped near Madinah, and we had with us a woman traveling in her howdah. While we were sitting, a man came to us wearing two white garments. He greeted us and asked, "Where have you come from?"We replied, "From al-Rabadha."We had a camel with us, and he asked, "Will you sell this camel?"We said, "Yes."He asked, "For how much?"We said, "For such and such measures of dates."He took it without bargaining us down and said, "I have taken it." Then he disappeared behind the walls of Madinah. We began to blame one another, saying, "You have given your camel to a man you do not even know."The woman in the howdah said, "Do not blame each other. I saw the face of a man who would not cheat you. I have never seen anything more closely resembling the full moon than his face."In the evening, a man came to us and greeted us, saying, "I am the messenger of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He says you may eat until you are full and measure out your dates until you have your full payment."So we ate until we were satisfied and measured out until we received our full due.The next morning we entered Madinah, and there was the Messenger of Allah ﷺ standing on the pulpit delivering a sermon, saying, "The hand of the giver is the upper hand. Begin with those you are responsible for, your mother and father, your sister and brother, then the next closest and the next closest."A man stood up and said, "Messenger of Allah, these are Banu Thalaba bin Yarbu. They killed so-and-so in the days of ignorance, so help us take our revenge from him."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his hands until I could see the whiteness of his armpits and said, "No mother brings guilt upon her child. No mother brings guilt upon her child."
Nasai (4839) and Ibn Majah (2670) narrated it, and Ibn Hibban (6562) and Hakim (2/611–612) graded it sahih, all of them through the hadith of Yazid bin Ziyad bin Abu Jaad, from Jami bin Shaddad, from Tariq bin Abdullah Muharibi, and he mentioned it. The wording is that of Ibn Hibban, while Nasai and Ibn Majah confined themselves to the part concerning the offense. Its chain is hasan because of Yazid bin Ziyad bin Abu Jaad. Hakim said, "Sahih according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs."
