Abu Hurairah said, "My sincere friend, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, told me that an expedition from this Ummah would be sent to Sind and Hind. If I live to witness it and am martyred, that is what I hope for. And if I,"—and he mentioned a word—"return, I will be Abu Hurairah the freed one, whom Allah has freed from the Fire."
حدثني خليلي الصادق رسول الله ﷺ أنه قال: يكون في هذه الأمة بعث إلى السند والهند. فإن أنا أدركته فاستشهدت فذاك، وإن أنا- فذكر كلمة- رجعت وأنا أبو هريرة المحرر قد أعتقني من النار.
Ahmad narrated it (8823) from Yahya bin Ishaq, who said, Bara informed us, from Hasan, from Abu Hurairah, and he related it.Bara here is Ibn Abdullah Ghanawi, and he is daif. Hasan is Hasan Basri, and it has not been established, on the more correct view, that he heard from Abu Hurairah. However, it has other routes, and taken together these make the hadith hasan. It is cited in the book on jihad.The Muslims raided Hind in the time of Muawiya, in the year 44 AH, and the raids continued one after another at the hands of Muhammad bin Qasim, Mahmud bin Sabuktikin, and others. See Bidayah wan-Nihayah (9/218–219). Hind remained a land of Islam for close to eight centuries, and in this the Prophet's ﷺ glad tidings were fulfilled.
