Some of the wives of the Prophet ﷺ asked him, "Which of us will be the quickest to join you after your death?"He replied, "The one with the longest hand."So they took a reed and began measuring their hands with it, and Sawdah turned out to have the longest hand among them. We later understood that the length of her hand referred to her generosity in giving charity. She was indeed the quickest of us to join him, and she loved giving charity.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Zakat (1420) from Musa bin Ismail, who said, Abu Awana narrated to us, from Firas, from Shaybi, from Masruq, from Ayesha, and she related it.Her statement, "and she was the quickest of us to join him," refers to Zaynab, whose mention was omitted from this narration. She died in the year twenty, while Sawda died toward the end of Umar's caliphate (d. 23 AH).
