The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "Come close to me." He then ran his hand over my head and beard and said, "O Allah, make him handsome and let his beauty endure."He lived to be over a hundred years old, with hardly any white in his head or beard except for a few scattered hairs. His face remained smooth and unwrinkled until the day he died.
قال لي رسول الله ﷺ: ادن مني قال: فسمح بيده على رأسه ولحيته، قال: ثم قال: اللهم جمله، وأدم جماله قال: فلقد بلغ بضعا ومئة سنة وما في رأسه ولحيته بياض إلا نبذ يسير، ولقد كان منبسط الوجه، ولم ينقبض وجهه حتى مات.
Ahmad (20733), and this is his wording, Tirmidhi (3629), Abu Yaala (6847), and Ibn Hibban (7171) all narrated it through the route of Azra bin Thabit Ansari, who said, Ilba bin Ahmar narrated to us, Abu Zayd Amr bin Akhtab narrated to us, and he related it. Its chain is hasan because of Ilba bin Ahmar, for he is hasan al-hadith. Tirmidhi said, This is a hasan gharib hadith, meaning it was only narrated through this route.The reason why the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed for Abu Zayd to have good looks has been reported in the hadith narrated by Ahmad (22883), Ibn Hibban (7172), Hakim (4/139), and Bayhaqi in Dalail (5/311-312), all through the route of Ali bin Hasan bin Shaqiq, who said, Husayn bin Waqid narrated to us, who said, Abu Nahik narrated to me (his name is Uthman bin Nahik Azdi), who said, Amr bin Akhtab narrated to me, he said, The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked for water, so I brought him a vessel containing water, and there was a hair in it, so I removed it, then handed it to him, and he said, "O Allah, make him handsome."
