Umm Malik used to send the Prophet ﷺ gifts of clarified butter in a small skin container of hers. Her sons would come to her asking for something to eat with their bread, and there would be nothing in the house. So she would turn to the very container in which she had been sending gifts to the Prophet ﷺ, and she would find clarified butter in it. It continued to provide the seasoning for her household until she squeezed it dry.She came to the Prophet ﷺ, and he asked, "Did you squeeze it?"She replied, "Yes."He said, "Had you left it alone, it would have kept on providing."
أن أم مالك كانت تهدي للنبي ﷺ في عكة لها سمنا، فيأتيها بنوها فيسألون الأدم، وليس عندهم شيء، فتعمد إلى الذي كانت تهدي فيه للنبي ﷺ فتجد فيه سمنا، فما زال يقيم لها أدم بيتهما حتى عصرته، فأتت النبي ﷺ فقال: عصرتيها؟ قالت: نعم قال: لو تركتيها ما زال قائما
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Virtues (2280: 8), from Salama bin Shabib, who said, Hasan bin Ayan told us, who said, Maqil told us, from Abu Zubayr, from Jabir, and he related it.His statement, "he kept standing," means he remained present and existing.
