We set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a military expedition, and we became so hard-pressed that we considered slaughtering some of our riding animals. The Prophet of Allah ﷺ then ordered us to gather our provision-bags, so we spread out a leather mat for him, and the people's provisions were piled up on it.He said, "I stretched up to estimate how much there was, and I judged it to be about the size of a crouching goat. We were fourteen hundred men. We ate until we were all full, then we filled our provision-bags."Then the Prophet of Allah ﷺ asked, "Is there any water for ablution?"A man came with a small water-skin containing a little water and emptied it into a bowl. All fourteen hundred of us performed ablution from it, pouring it generously. After that, eight more men came and asked, "Is there any water for purification?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "The water for ablution is finished."
