We set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the year of the Battle of Tabuk. He used to combine the prayers, praying Zuhr and Asr together, and Maghrib and Isha together. One day, he delayed the prayer, then came out and prayed Zuhr and Asr together. He then went inside, came out again afterward, and prayed Maghrib and Isha together. He then said, "Tomorrow, Allah willing, you will reach the spring of Tabuk, but you will not arrive there until the day is well advanced. Whoever among you reaches it must not touch any of its water until I come."When we arrived, we found that two men had reached it before us, and the spring was trickling with only a small amount of water, like the thong of a sandal. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked the two men, "Did you touch any of its water?"They replied, "Yes."The Prophet ﷺ rebuked them and said to them whatever Allah willed him to say. Then the people scooped up small amounts of water from the spring with their hands until enough was gathered in a vessel. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ washed his hands and face in it, then poured it back into the spring, and the spring flowed with abundant water, or he said gushing water (Abu Ali was uncertain which word he used), until the people had drawn what they needed. Then he said, "Muaz, if you live long enough, you will soon see this place filled with gardens."
Muslim narrated it in al-Fadail (10:706) from Abdullah bin Abdul-Rahman Darimi, who said, Abu Ali Hanafi narrated to us, Malik (that is, Ibn Anas) narrated to us, from Abu Zubayr Makki, that Abu Tufayl Amir bin Wathila informed him that Muaz bin Jabal informed him, and he related it.His saying, "tabudd," with the dotted dad, means "flows."His saying, "munhamir," means "pouring heavily and abundantly."
