An Arabi came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "How can I know that you are a prophet?"He replied, "If I call this cluster of dates from this palm tree and it bears witness that I am the Messenger of Allah, will that convince you?"So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called it, and it began to descend from the palm tree until it fell before the Prophet ﷺ. Then he said, "Go back," and it returned to its place. So the Arabi embraced Islam.
جاء أعرابي إلى رسول الله ﷺ فقال: بم أعرف أنك نبي؟ قال: إن دعوت هذا العذق من هذه النخلة تشهد أني رسول الله؟ فدعاه رسول الله ﷺ فجعل ينزل من النخلة حتى سقط إلى النبي ﷺ ثم قال: ارجع فعاد، فأسلم الأعرابي.
Tirmidhi (3628) narrated it, and the wording is his, as did Ahmad (1954). Ibn Hibban (6523) and Hakim (2/620) both graded it sahih. All of them narrated it through various routes from Abu Dhubyan (whose name was Husayn bin Jundab Bajali) from Ibn Abbas, who related it.The wording of Ahmad and Ibn Hibban is similar, though they do not mention the Bedouin's conversion to Islam. Its chain of transmission is sahih.Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan gharib sahih hadith."
