Abdullah bin Masud reported,

Ibn Masud reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The last person to enter Paradise will be a man who walks for a stretch, then stumbles, then is scorched by the Fire. Once he passes beyond it, he turns back toward it and says, 'Blessed is the One who saved me from you. Allah has given me something He has not given to anyone among the earlier or later peoples.'Then a tree is raised up before him, and he says, 'My Lord, bring me close to this tree so I may shelter in its shade and drink from its water.'Allah says, 'Son of Adam, if I grant you this, will you not ask Me for something else?'He replies, 'No, my Lord,' and he pledges that he will ask for nothing more. His Lord excuses him, for He sees that he is faced with what he cannot bear. So He brings him near to it, and he shelters in its shade and drinks from its water.Then another tree is raised up for him, more beautiful than the first, and he says, 'My Lord, bring me close to this one so I may drink from its water and shelter in its shade. I will ask You for nothing else.'Allah says, 'Son of Adam, did you not pledge that you would not ask Me for anything else? Perhaps if I bring you close to it, you will ask Me for yet another?'He pledges that he will not ask for anything more, and his Lord excuses him, for He sees that he is faced with what he cannot bear. So He brings him near it, and he shelters in its shade and drinks from its water.Then a third tree is raised up for him at the gate of Paradise, more beautiful than the previous two, and he says, 'My Lord, bring me close to this one so I may shelter in its shade and drink from its water. I will ask You for nothing else.'Allah says, 'Son of Adam, did you not pledge that you would not ask Me for anything more?'He says, 'Yes, my Lord, but only this. I will ask You for nothing else.' His Lord excuses him, for He sees that he is faced with what he cannot bear, so He brings him near it. When He brings him near, the man hears the voices of the people of Paradise, and he says, 'My Lord, admit me into it.'Allah says, 'Son of Adam, what will put an end to your asking? Would it satisfy you if I gave you the world and the like of it along with it?'He says, 'My Lord, are You mocking me, when You are the Lord of all the worlds?'"Ibn Masud laughed, then said, "Will you not ask me why I am laughing?"They asked, "Why are you laughing?"He said, "This is how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ laughed, and they asked him, 'Why are you laughing, Messenger of Allah?'He said, 'At the laughter of the Lord of the worlds when the man said, "Are You mocking me, when You are the Lord of all the worlds?" Allah replies, "I am not mocking you. Rather, I am capable of whatever I will." Then He admits him into Paradise.'"

عن ابن مسعود

عود أن رسول الله ﷺ قال: آخر من يدخل الجنة رجل، فهو يمشي مرة ويكبو مرة، وتسفعه النار مرة، فإذا ما جاوزها التفت إليها، فقال: تبارك الذي نجاني منك، لقد أعطاني الله شيئا ما أعطاه أحدا من الأولين والآخرين. فترفع له شجرة، فيقول: أي رب أدنني من هذه الشجرة فلأستظل بظلها، وأشرب من مائها. فيقول الله عز وجل: يا ابن آدم لعلي إن أعطيتكها سألتني غيرها؟ فيقول: لا يا له رب. ويعاهده أن لا يسأله غيرها، وربه يعذره لأنه يرى ما لا صبر عليه، فيدنيه منها فيستظل بظلها ويشرب من مائها، ثم ترفع له شجرة هي أحسن من الأولى، فيقول: أي رب أدنني من هذه لأشرب من مائها وأستظل بظلها لا أسألك غيرها. فيقول: يا ابن آدم ألم تعاهدني أن لا تسألني غيرها؟ فيقول: لعلي إن أدنيتك منها تسألني غيرها؟ فيعاهده أن لا يسأله غيرها، وربه يعذره لأنه يرى ما لا صبر له عليه، فيدنيه منها فيستظل بظلها ويشرب من مائها، ثم ترفع له شجرة هي عند باب الجنة هي أحسن من الأوليين. فيقول: أي رب، أدنني من هذه لأستظل بظلها وأشرب من مائها، لا أسألك غيرها. فيقول: يا ابن آدم ألم تعاهدني أن لا تسألني غيرها؟ قال: بلى يا رب هذه لا أسألك غيرها وربه يعذره لأنه يرى ما لا صبر له عليه فيدنيه منها، فإذا أدناه منها فيسمع أصوات أهل الجنة، فيقول: أي رب أدخلنيها. فيقول: يا ابن آدم ما يصريني منك؟ أيرضيك أن أعطيك الدنيا ومثلها معها؟ قال: يا رب أتستهزئ مني وأنت رب العالمين. فضحك ابن مسعود فقال: ألا تسألوني مم أضحك؟ فقالوا: مم تضحك؟ قال: هكذا ضحك رسول الله ﷺ، فقالوا: مم تضحك يا رسول الله؟ قال: من ضحك رب العالمين حين قال: أتستهزئ مني وأنت رب العالمين. فيقول: إني لا أستهزئ منك، ولكني على ما أشاء قدير فيدخله الجنة.
