The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to stay up at night discussing matters concerning the Muslims with Abu Bakr, and I was with them.
كان رسول الله ﷺ يسمر مع أبي بكر في الأمر من أمور المسلمين وأنا معهما.
Tirmidhi (169) and Ahmad (175) narrated it, and Ibn Khuzayma (1156) graded it sahih, all of them by way of Abu Muawiya, who said, Amash narrated to us, from Ibrahim, from Alqama, from Umar bin Khattab, who said, and then he mentioned it. Its chain is sahih. The wording given here is that of Tirmidhi, while the wording of Ahmad and Ibn Khuzayma is longer, and it has already been given in full earlier in the chapter on the night prayer.
