A sheep was slaughtered at her house, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent word to her saying, "Send us some of your sheep to eat."She said to the messenger, "By Allah, nothing is left with us except the neck, and I feel too embarrassed to send the neck to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."The messenger returned and informed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said, "Go back to her and tell her, 'Send it, for it is the guiding part. It is the closest part of the sheep to good and the farthest from harm.'"
أنها ذبحت في بيتها شاة فأرسل إليها رسول الله ﷺ أن أطعمينا من شاتكم، فقالت للرسول: والله ما بقي عندنا إلا الرقبة، وإني أستحيي أن أرسل إلى رسول الله ﷺ بالرقبة، فرجع الرسول، فأخبر رسول الله ﷺ، فقال: ارجع إليها، فقل لها: أرسلي بها فإنها هادية، وأقرب الشاة إلى الخير وأبعدها من الأذى.
Ahmad narrated it (27031), as did Nasai in al-Kubra (6624) and Tabarani in al-Kabir (24/337), all of them through the route of Abdullah bin Mubarak, from Usama bin Zayd, from Fadl bin Fadl, from Abdul-Rahman Araj, from Dubaa bint Zubayr bin Abdul-Muttalib, who narrated it.Fadl bin Fadl al-Madani is "acceptable" (maqbul), meaning acceptable when corroborated, and he has indeed been corroborated. Ismail bin Jafar al-Madani narrated it, as found in the hadith of Ali bin Hajar Saadi (377), from Amr bin Abu Amr al-Madani, from Abdul-Rahman, that Dubaa bint Zubayr slaughtered a sheep... the hadith.The apparent form of the chain is mursal, but the narration of Ahmad, Nasai, and Tabarani shows that it is actually connected. With these two chains combined, the hadith rises to the level of hasan.His words, "the foremost part of the sheep," mean the first cuts of the sheep. His words, "the part of the sheep closest to what is good," mean closer to pleasure and to being well cooked. His words, "the furthest of it from impurity," mean the furthest from what comes out of the front and back passages. His words, "so he sent to her," indicate kinship and affection, since Dubaa was the daughter of the Prophet's ﷺ paternal uncle, and this is not to be counted as a request for something.
