The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would spend several nights in a row hungry, and his family had no dinner to eat. Most of their bread was barley bread.
كان رسول الله ﷺ يبيت الليالي المتتابعة طاويا وأهله لا يجدون عشاء، وكان أكثر خبزهم خبز الشعير.
Tirmidhi (2360), Ibn Majah (3347), and Imam Ahmad (2303) all narrated it through the route of Thabit bin Yazid, who said, Hilal bin Khabab narrated to us, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas, and he mentioned it. Tirmidhi said, hasan sahih. I say, it contains Hilal bin Khabab, concerning whom there is disagreement, though his hadith is hasan.
