The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did something, treating it as a permissible concession. Word of this reached some of his companions, and it seemed they disliked it and chose to abstain from it out of piety. When this reached him, he stood up to deliver a sermon and said, "What is the matter with Some men who heard that I granted a concession in some matter, yet they disliked it and abstained from it? By Allah, I know Allah better than they do, and I fear Him more intensely than they do."
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Manners (6101) and in Holding Fast to the Book and the Sunnah (7301), and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Virtues (235:127), both of them through the route of Amash, who said, Muslim Abu Duha narrated to us, from Masruq, from Ayesha, who said, and then she mentioned it.
