"I saw the hair of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ dyed."Hammad said, Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqeel informed us, saying, "I saw the hair of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with Anas bin Malik, and it was dyed."

Tirmidhi related it in Shamail (47) from Abdullah bin Abdul-Rahman, who said, Amr bin Asim informed us, who said, Hammad bin Salama narrated to us, who said, Humayd narrated to us, from Anas, who said, and then he related it.Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Amr bin Asim Kilabi, for his hadith is hasan. There is no contradiction between this and the reports denying it, for perhaps he later noticed dyed hair on Umm Salama and reported that. Nawawi said, "The preferred view is that he ﷺ dyed his hair at a time indicated by the hadith of Ibn Umar in the Sahihayn, and left it undyed most of the time, so each person reported what he saw, and each was truthful."
