Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on the description of the Prophet ﷺ (1), from Rabia bin Abu Abdul-Rahman, from Anas bin Malik, who narrated it as mentioned above. Bukhari also narrated it in the chapter on Virtues (3548), and Muslim narrated it in the chapter on Merits (113:2347), both of them through the route of Malik, with the same wording.A similar report is narrated from Ibn Umar, who said, "The gray hair of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ numbered about twenty strands." However, its chain of transmission is daif. Ibn Majah narrated it (3630), as did Tirmidhi in Shamail (39) and Ahmad (5633), and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (6295, 6294), all of them through the route of Yahya bin Adam, who said, Sharik narrated to us, from Ubaydullah, from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, who narrated it as mentioned above.Its chain of transmission is daif, containing Sharik bin Abdullah Nakhai the judge, who had poor memory and is considered daif when he narrates a hadith alone. Bukhari criticized the hadith on this account, saying, "I do not know of anyone who narrated this hadith from Ubaydullah other than Sharik."
