Ayesha reported,

Aisha said, "I visited Abu Bakr, and he asked me, 'In how many garments did you shroud the Prophet ﷺ?'"She replied, "In three white Sahuli garments, with no shirt or turban among them."He then asked her, "On what day did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pass away?"She said, "On Monday."He asked, "What day is today?"She replied, "Monday."He said, "I hope it will be sometime between now and tonight."He looked at a garment he had been wearing during his illness, which had a stain of saffron on it, and said, "Wash this garment of mine, add two more to it, and shroud me in them."I said, "But this one is worn out."He replied, "The living have more right to new clothing than the dead. It is only for absorbing the bodily fluids."He did not pass away until the evening of Tuesday night, and he was buried before morning.
