A neighbor of mine completed the Quran with Umar bin Khattab, and he said,A cavalry detachment belonging to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had set out, and Ukaydir of Dumat al-Jandal heard of it. He went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, I have heard that your cavalry has set out, and I fear for my land and my property. Write me a document so that nothing of mine will be touched, for I acknowledge what is due from me as obligation."So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrote him a document. Then Ukaydir brought out a robe woven with gold, of the kind Chosroes used to clothe his courtiers in.The Prophet ﷺ said, "Take your robe back, for no one wears this in this world except that he will be deprived of it in the next."The man returned with it, but when he reached his home he could not bear that his gift had been refused, so he went back to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, we are a household to whom it is grievous that our gift be refused. So accept my gift from me."He said to him, "Go and give it to Umar."Umar had heard what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, so he asked, "Has something new occurred? You said about this robe what I heard, then you send it to me?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ laughed until he placed his hand over his mouth, then said, "I did not send it to you for you to wear it, but for you to sell it and benefit from its price."

Reported by Abu Yaala (Matalib Aliyah 2237), and Ibn Qani in brief in Mujam Sahabah (2/351), both through the route of Jafar bin Humayd, who said, "Ubaydullah bin Iyad (that is, Ibn Laqit) narrated to us," from his father, from Qays bin Numan, and he related it.Its chain is sahih, and Busiri also graded it sahih in Ithaf (5436). Ibn Hajar affirmed the strength of its chain in Fath (5/231).
