The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There are two groups of my nation who will not receive my intercession, a tyrannical ruler, and every extremist who departs from the religion."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: صنفان من أمتي لن تنالهما شفاعتي: إمام ظلوم، وكل غال مارق.
Tabarani narrated it in Al-Kabir (3378) from Muaz bin Muthanna and Muhammad bin Tammar Basri, who both said, Musaddad narrated to us, Jafar bin Sulayman narrated to us, from Mualla bin Ziyad Firdawsi, from Abu Ghalib, from Abu Umama, and he related it.Its chain is hasan due to some discussion concerning Abu Ghalib, the companion of Abu Umama, though he is one whose hadith is hasan. Haythami mentioned it in Al-Majma (5/235), and Munziri in Targhib wal-Tarhib (3404), and both said, Tabarani narrated it in Al-Kabir, and its narrators are trustworthy. However, Munziri also attributed it to Al-Awsat, and it is indeed found there, as noted in Majma Bahrayn (2577), but by a different route, from Khalil bin Murra, from Abu Ghalib, from him, with the wording, "Two types among my nation my intercession will not reach, a tyrannical, oppressive ruler, and one who exceeds bounds in religion."In this version is Khalil bin Murra, who is daif, and the one narrating from him is Ala bin Sulayman, who is Raqqi. Ibn Adi said of him, "His hadith is munkar, he brings forth texts and chains that cannot be corroborated." For this reason, Haythami, after attributing it to Tabarani in both Al-Kabir and Al-Awsat, singled out the narrators of Al-Kabir specifically, describing them as trustworthy, without doing the same for the narrators of Al-Awsat, a distinction that Munziri failed to notice.
