During the expedition to Tabuk, the people were struck by famine. They said, "Messenger of Allah, if you would permit us, we could slaughter our water-camels so we may eat and use the fat."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Do so."Then Umar came and said, "Messenger of Allah, if you do that, our mounts will be few. Instead, call them to bring whatever provisions they have left, then ask Allah to bless it for them. Perhaps Allah will grant abundance through that."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Yes."He called for a leather mat and spread it out, then asked the people to bring what remained of their provisions. One man came with a handful of corn, another with a handful of dates, another with a piece of bread, until a small amount had gathered on the mat. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then prayed for blessing upon it and said, "Take it into your containers."So they filled their containers, until not a single vessel in the camp was left unfilled. They ate until they were satisfied, and there was still some left over. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and that I am the Messenger of Allah. No servant meets Allah affirming these two things without doubt except that he will not be barred from Paradise."
