When Uthman was besieged, he looked down upon them from above and said, "I adjure you, and I adjure none but the companions of the Prophet ﷺ. Do you not know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Whoever digs the well of Rumah will have Paradise,' so I dug it? Do you not know that he said, 'Whoever equips the army of hardship will have Paradise,' so I equipped it?"They confirmed the truth of what he said.
أن عثمان حيث حوصر أشرف عليهم وقال: أنشدكم ولا أنشد إلا أصحاب النبي ﷺ: ألستم تعلمون أن رسول الله ﷺ قال: من حفر رومة فله الجنة فحفرتها؟ ألستم تعلمون أنه قال: من جهز جيش العسرة فله الجنة فجهزتها قال: فصدقوه بما قال.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Wills (2778), saying, Abdan said, my father informed me, from Shubah, from Abu Ishaq, from Abu Abdul-Rahman, that Uthman, and he mentioned it.Bukhari's statement "Abdan said" is taken to indicate a connected chain, and this is why Bayhaqi (6/167) said, Bukhari narrated it in his Sahih from Abdan. Abdan is Abdullah bin Uthman bin Jabalah, known by the title Abdan, one of Bukhari's teachers.
