On the day of Hunayn, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave preference to certain people in the distribution of spoils. He gave Aqra bin Habis a hundred camels, gave Uyayna the same, and gave shares to other leading Arab nobles, favoring them that day in the distribution.A man said, "By Allah, this is a distribution in which justice has not been observed, and the face of Allah was not sought through it."I said to myself, "By Allah, I will inform the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."So I came to him and told him what the man had said. His face changed until it became like dyed cloth, and he said, "Who then is just, if Allah and His Messenger are not just?"Then he said, "May Allah have mercy on Musa. He was harmed with more than this, yet he remained patient."I said, "Indeed, I will never again carry any report to him after this."
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Campaigns (4336), and Muslim in the Book of Zakat (1062:140), both through the route of Jareer, from Mansur, from Abu Waail, from Abdullah , who said, and he mentioned it.His statement, "until it was like sarif," refers to a red dye used to dye leather. Ibn Duraid said that blood is also sometimes called sarif.
