I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ among a group of women to pledge allegiance to Islam, and they said, "Messenger of Allah, we pledge allegiance to you that we will not associate anything with Allah, nor steal, nor commit adultery, nor kill our children, nor utter slander we have fabricated between our hands and feet, nor disobey you in what is right."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "In whatever you are able to do and to obey."She said, the women replied, "Allah and His Messenger are more merciful to us than we are to ourselves. Come, let us pledge allegiance to you, Messenger of Allah."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I do not shake hands with women. My word to a hundred women is the same as my word to a single woman," or "like my word to a single woman."
أتيت رسول الله ﷺ في نسوة على الإسلام فقلن: يا رسول الله! نبايعك على أن لا نشرك بالله شيئا، ولا نسرق، ولا نزني، ولا نقتل أولادنا، ولا نأتي ببهتان نفتريه بين أيدينا وأرجلنا، ولا نعصيك في معروف فقال رسول الله ﷺ: فيما استطعتن وأطعتن قالت: فقلن: الله ورسوله أرحم بنا من أنفسنا هلم نبايعك يا رسول الله، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: إني لا أصافح النساء، إنما قولي لمائة امرأة كقولي لامرأة واحدة، أو مثل قولي: لامرأة واحدة.
Malik narrated it in the chapter on the pledge of allegiance (2) from Muhammad bin Munkadir, from Umaima bint Ruqayqa, who said, then she mentioned it. Tirmidhi (1597), Ibn Majah (2874), Nasai (149/7), and Ahmad (27006) also narrated it, and Ibn Hibban (4553) graded it sahih, all of them through the hadith of Sufyan bin Uyayna from Muhammad bin Munkadir with his chain of transmission in a similar wording, though the wording given is Malik's. Ibn Hibban narrated it by this same route. Hakim (71/4) narrated it through the route of Ibn Ishaq from Muhammad bin Munkadir.Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan sahih hadith. We do not know it except through the hadith of Muhammad bin Munkadir in a similar form. Sufyan Thawri, Malik bin Anas, and several others narrated this hadith from Muhammad bin Munkadir in a similar form. I asked Muhammad about this hadith, and he said, 'I do not know of any hadith from Umaima bint Ruqayqa other than this one. There is another woman named Umaima who has a hadith from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.'"Waqidi said, "Ruqayqa was her mother. She was the sister of Khadijah bint Khuwaylid, and thus the maternal aunt of Fatimah, the daughter of the Prophet ﷺ."
