Aswad bin Khalaf reported that he saw the Prophet ﷺ taking the pledge of allegiance from the people on the day of the conquest of Mecca. He said, "He sat at the foot of Masfalah and accepted the people's pledge upon Islam and the testimony."I asked, "What is the testimony?"He replied, "Muhammad bin Aswad bin Khalaf informed me that he took their pledge upon belief in Allah, and the testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger."
أنه رأى النبي ﷺ يبايع الناس يوم الفتح، قال: جلس عند قرن مسفلة، فبايع الناس على الإسلام والشهادة قال: قلت: وما الشهادة؟ قال: أخبرني محمد بن الأسود بن خلف أنه بايعهم على الإيمان بالله، وشهادة أن لا إله الله، وأن محمدا عبده ورسوله.
Ahmad (15431) narrated it from Abdul-Razzaq, and it is in al-Musannaf (9820), and al-Hakim (3/296) said, Ibn Jurayj informed us, he said, Abdullah bin Uthman bin Khaytham informed me that Muhammad bin Aswad bin Khalaf informed him, that his father Aswad saw the Prophet ﷺ, and he related it.Bayhaqi narrated it in al-Dalail (5/94) through another route from Ibn Jurayj, and he added in it, "Then the young and the old, the men and the women, came to him and pledged allegiance to him upon Islam and the testimony of faith." Al-Hakim remained silent about it.Its chain is hasan on account of Muhammad bin Aswad bin Khalaf, whom Bukhari mentioned in al-Tarikh (1/29), saying, "He is counted among the people of Makkah," and he mentioned two other hadiths from him, meaning that he acknowledged him. Ibn Hibban rated him trustworthy, and this is the basis on which Hafiz Haythami relied in al-Majmaa (6/37) when he said, "Its narrators are trustworthy."
