I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "No one endures its hardship and severity without my being an intercessor or a witness for him on the Day of Resurrection."
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: لا يصبر على لأوائها وشدتها أحد إلا كنت له شفيعا، أو شهيدا يوم القيامة.
Malik narrated it in Kitab al-Jami (3) from Qutn bin Wahb bin Umayr bin Ajda, that Yuhanis, the freed slave of Zubayr bin Awwam, informed him that he was sitting with Abdullah bin Umar during the fitnah, when a freedwoman of his came to greet him. She said, "I intended to leave, O Abu Abdul-Rahman, times have become hard for us." Abdullah bin Umar said to her, "Sit down, you wretch, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say" (then he mentioned the hadith).Muslim narrated it in al-Hajj (1377) from Yahya bin Yahya, who said, "I read it to Malik," then he mentioned it.His saying, "its hardships," refers to the difficulties of remaining there. His saying, "a witness," means one who attests to his deeds, if his deeds were good.
