The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever among you is able to die in Medina, let him do so, for no one dies there without my being an intercessor or a witness for him on the Day of Resurrection."
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال: من استطاع منكم أن يموت بالمدينة فليمت؛ لأنه لا يموت بها أحد إلا كنت له شفيعا أو شهيدا يوم القيامة.
Tabarani reported it in al-Kabir (24/294), and Abu Yaala as found in Matalib Aliyah, Muhammad (2/67), and Abu Naeem in al-Sahaba (6/3349), all of them through the route of Abdul-Aziz bin Usama bin Zayd, from Abdullah bin Ikrima, from Abdullah bin Abdullah bin Umar bin Darawardi, from Khattab, from his father, from Subaia al-Aslamiyyah, and so he mentioned it.Its isnad is hasan because of Abdullah bin Ikrima, who is al-Makhzumi al-Qurashi, from the people of Madinah. A group of narrators reported from him, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him among al-Thiqat, and his hadith has sahih foundations.Haythami said in Majma (3/306), "Tabarani reported it in al-Kabir, and its narrators are the narrators of sahih, except for Abdullah bin Ikrima. Ibn Abu Hatim mentioned him, a group narrated from him, and no one spoke ill of him."Bayhaqi found fault with it in Shuab al-Iman (3885), saying, "This is a mistake, it is actually from Sumayta."I say, this does not prevent both hadiths from being sahih. Perhaps Abdullah bin Umar heard from both of them, and so he narrated this hadith in two different sittings, once from Sumayta and once from Subaia. In sum, the hadith is traced back to one or the other of the two female companions.
