Amr bin As reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent him on the expedition of Dhat al-Salasil. His companions asked permission to light a fire, but he forbade them. They appealed to Abu Bakr, who spoke to him about it, but he said, "I will throw into the fire anyone among them who lights one."They then encountered the enemy and routed them. The men wanted to pursue the fleeing enemy, but he stopped them. When that army returned, they brought the matter before the Prophet ﷺ and complained about him.He said, "Messenger of Allah, I disliked giving them permission to light a fire, lest the enemy see how few we were. And I disliked having them pursue the enemy, in case reinforcements were nearby and the enemy turned back upon them."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ praised him for this.He then asked, "Messenger of Allah, who is the most beloved of people to you?"The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Why do you ask?"He said, "So that I may love whomever you love."He answered, "Ayesha."He asked, "And among the men?"He replied, "Abu Bakr."
